Frequently Asked Questions
Can I combine injectables with energy-based treatments?
Some treatments compliment each other, while other times they can cause conflicts with each other. For example, BBL and lasers can be safely combined with dermal fillers in a same-day session as no light-based treatments can penetrate to the depth of fillers and distort them. On the other hand, heat-based procedures such as Thermage combined with injectables should be staggered. The time apart and the sequence of having different procedures together should also be under consideration.
To get a safe and efficacious combination of energy-based devices and injectables in cosmetic therapy personalized for you, book a consultation with our doctor to discuss your needs and expectations.

Are they safe?
At Medical Spa Club, your safety is our first priority. We only import technologies with proven clinical report and research support. All of our machines and devices are certified safe by FDA and Health Canada. Our fully-licensed physician Dr. Pinkhasik has been practicing since 1987 and oversees the clinic’s operations. High-energy procedures such as Ultherapy are only performed by our doctor.
Aesthetician services such as laser hair removal and microdermabrasion are performed by our medical aesthetician, who has received proper training prior to giving any treatment to our clients, and is supervised by our clinic’s doctor.
How Is Ultherapy different from other HIFU therapies?
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a relatively new cosmetic treatment for skin tightening. Compared to other common energy technologies such as laser and RF, it reaches much deeper under the skin to the SMAS layer (see it as the foundation of a house) and simulates collagen (the framework). It also bypasses the skin surface, so there’s no downtime after the procedure.
When you consider having a HIFU treatment, make sure it is certified for safety, as its high energy can cause severe damage to your skin.
There are many HIFU devices in the market, but Ulthera is the first (and remains the only) device approved by FDA and Health Canada for skin lifting. It has passed FDA and Health Canada’s periodic checks for safety and efficacy.
Ultherapy, the name of the treatment, is available at Medical Spa Club.
How is HIFU different from laser, RF and BBL?
The main difference between HIFU and other energy-based therapies is that ultrasound goes deeper in the skin.
- BBL and laser: focus on the outer layer of the skin (dermis up to 1.5mm deep), effective in treating the superficial layer of the skin to reveal firmer and smoother skin later.
- RF: it affects an area (bulk heating) rather than fractional and precise points/lines and goes deeper than BBL (RF energy travels down to fat/connective tissues at 3mm deep) and laser but not as deep as HIFU. It is a suitable treatment to target delicate areas such as upper eyelids. It is able to produce skin tightening and anti-aging effects.
- HIFU: it reaches the SMAS layer at 4.5mm deep and can cause a face-lifting effect.
