Saggy Skin
There are several reasons that cause our skin to sag.
Aging
when we are young, our skin produces collagen naturally to keep it firm and in place. As we age, our collagen production declines. Additionally, factor like smoking and sun exposure activate processes that breakdown existing collagen. Also, supporting structures such as bone and facial subcutaneous tissues shrink with aging, resulting in reduced structural support and deflation, resulting in signs of aging, such as sagging, wrinkles, and fragile skin.
Weight Loss
another reason that causes skin to lose its tightness is after enormous weight loss. Carrying extra weight for an extended period of time can cause damage to the collagen and elastin fibres in your skin. If you lose weight too quickly, your skin’s elasticity doesn’t have enough time to adapt to your new shape. This makes it harder for your skin to snap back when you lose a great significant amount of weight e.g. over 100 pounds in a short period of time, resulting in excess saggy skin. Your age at the time of weight loss can also play a role in how saggy your skin becomes, as it is easy for younger skin to bounce back more readily.
After Pregnancy
the skin stretches to accommodate a growing bump during pregnancy. As a result, many women find that the skin around their abdomen becomes loose after giving birth. Maternal age may also play a role.
