Botulinum Toxins
We at Medical Spa Club located in Richmond, B.C., use Botulinum Toxins in a number of popular cosmetic and therapeutic procedures. Dr. Pinkhasik has been practicing in Richmond since 1987 heading 2 busy family practice clinics.
How Do Botulinum Toxins Work?
Botulinum Toxins are injectables with a neuro-modulator derived from Botulinum A toxin that is used for relaxation of specific hyper-active, tense, or spastic muscles to produce the desired effect. These neuromodulators block the release of Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, from nerve endings at the site of injection, producing the following effects:
- Relaxation of muscles that cause wrinkles, or a muscle spasm that causes a headache (migraine headache)
- Targeted relaxation of specific muscles can be used to produce a brow lift, reduce a gummy smile, or improve “turkey neck”
- Injecting into Masseter Muscles can weaken these muscles, reduce Masseter size, and is used for treatment of Bruxism (teeth grinding) and TMJ pain
- Injecting in areas rich in sweat glands (such as underarms) will block the nerves activating these sweat glands, and can be used for treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
