Everything you need to know about Microdermabrasion, A Lunchtime Procedure for Skin Renewal

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of different skin-related concerns and conditions. It is a superior skin resurfacing procedure that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, restoring your skin to a firmer, smoother and more youthful state.

It’s a popular lunch break facial that only takes you around half an hour for softer and clearer skin. Intrigued? We’ve got your covered! Read on how this procedure is done at Medical Spa Club and everything you need to know to prepare for this facial.

How It Is Done

The procedure uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface (a diamond tip but a knife!) to gently sand away the thick outer layer of the skin to rejuvenate it. It’s not necessary to use anesthesia or a numbing agent for microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is considered a safe procedure for most skin types and colors. You can choose to get the procedure if you have the following skin concerns:

Preparation Of The Procedure

Microdermabrasion is non-surgical and is minimally invasive. There’s very little you need to do in advance for it. It a good idea to discuss your skin concerns with our doctor and medical aesthetician to find out if microdermabrasion is the right fit for you. In order for us to properly assess your conditions, please let us know if you have done any cosmetic procedures and surgeries before, as well as other known allergies and medical conditions.

You should avoid sun exposure, tanning creams, and waxing for about a week before treatment and stop using exfoliating creams, masks & acids and retinoids approximately three days prior to treatment.

If you come with your makeup on, our aesthetician will remove it and cleanse your face before the procedure begins.

After The Treatment

Common side effects of microdermabrasion include mild tenderness, swelling, and redness. These are temporary and generally go away within a few hours after in the day. You are advised to use an effective moisturizing agent to minimize dry and flaky skin. Keep your skin hydrated and use gentle skin care products. You should avoid using strong acids and retinolds for at least one day after treatment. It’s extremely important to protect your skin with sunscreen as your skin will bee more sensitive to the sun in the following 2 weeks after the treatment.

Temporary redness

Since microdermabrasion is minimally invasive, there is little to no downtime after the procedure. You should be able to resume your daily activities immediately.

You can expect to see some improvements immediately after the procedure. The number of microdermabrasion sessions needed will depend on the severity of your skin concerns as well as your expectations.
