Post-BBL Care: What You Need to Know After Your Treatment
Published on September 25th, 2025:
BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy is a powerful way to refresh your skin, target sun damage, pigmentation, and improve overall complexion. To make sure you get the best results and keep your skin healthy, it’s important to follow the right aftercare steps.
Here’s what you should know after your BBL treatment:
Hold Off on Intense Workouts
Exercise that makes you sweat heavily or raises your heart rate can trigger extreme itchiness on treated areas. For the first day, it’s best to skip strenuous workouts and allow your skin to recover.
Pause Active Skincare Ingredients
For 7 days after treatment, avoid products with glycolic acid, salicylic acid (BHA), retinol, or other AHA/BHA exfoliants. These can be too harsh on freshly treated skin and may slow down your healing. Stick with gentle cleansers and moisturizers during this time.

Soothe Blisters or Open Areas with Ointment
Although uncommon, if you notice any blistering or open spots, apply Vaseline or a healing topical ointment. This will keep the skin hydrated and protected as it repairs.

Protect Treated Skin with Sunscreen
For 6 weeks after your treatment, apply sunscreen daily to the treated areas. Sun exposure can reverse the benefits of BBL and increase sensitivity. Be mindful to also avoid tanning products during this period.
Use Cold Compresses for Warmth or Discomfort
If the treated area feels especially warm within the first 24 hours, a cold compress or ice pack (wrapped in a towel) can be used for comfort. Avoid applying ice directly on the skin.
Every skin type is different, and your healing experience may vary. Following these guidelines helps ensure your treatment delivers safe and effective results.
