6 Myths about Vaginal Rejuvenation

Published on July 7th, 2026

As women age, experience childbirth, or go through menopause, changes in vaginal health can become a source of discomfort or reduced confidence. Unfortunately, there are still many misconceptions surrounding vaginal rejuvenation. Let’s separate fact from fiction.

Myth #1: It’s done for your partner

False: Women get vaginal rejuvenation procedures to relieve the discomfort of dryness and tissue atrophy (thinning) that are associated with menopause and are a part of a woman’s natural aging process. This results in restoration of tissue function and improved sexual satisfaction.

However, sexual satisfaction isn’t the only reason. Vaginal tightening is also performed in order to provide greater support to the urethra and bladder, thus improving the function of the urethral sphincter and relieving Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI).

Myth #2: It’s going to hurt a lot!

False: Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatments, such as Geneveve, use technology which enables these treatments to be very safe, effective, and painless.

Myth #3: Recovery is going to be painful.

False: The recovery is simple. There is no downtime after the procedure, we ask patients to abstain from sexual intercourse or using tampons for 2 days after the procedure. We also sometimes prescribe both estrogen and testosterone creams to accelerate the rejuvenating processes and enhance collagen production.

Myth #4: Women don’t care about vaginal tightness or orgasmic ability during sex and it is the men that care the most.

False: Women are as interested in their own sexual health not any less than their sexual partners are. Women just don’t talk about it as much.

Women who undergo vaginal rejuvenation treatments see and enjoy positive changes from the procedure, both physically and emotionally. As vaginal rejuvenation produces makes sex more pleasurable for both the female patient and her sexual partner, the effect on the relationship is positive.

Myth #5: Women aren’t as affected by matters of sex and aging as men are.

False: A common misconception is that women do not share the same level of concern about their sexual health as men do, and they are less interested in how aging changes their sexual health.

Instead, women tend to be more discreet than men are about their sexual health, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t care. Vaginal dryness, laxity, and inability to reach orgasm can be both emotionally and physically painful. Vaginal rejuvenation procedures help to resolve these issues.

Myth #6: Women are becoming excessively vain about their “lady parts”

False: Another assumption is that female rejuvenation is on the rise because women are overly concerned about having an “ideal” vagina.

Some claim that the female genitalia should be left untouched unless for cosmetic surgery. However, many women undergo vaginal rejuvenation procedures because of a variety of conditions that are painful, embarrassing, and impossible to live with. Vaginal laxity, large labia that rub and chafe against clothing, and stress urinary incontinence just a few examples of why women decide to have vaginal rejuvenation procedures.

Even if a woman’s goals are partially or solely cosmetic, it’s her right to seek a procedure, and a decision should be made by her.
