Botox and Xeomin Cosmetic

We use Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport at Medical Spa Club in Richmond, a suburb of Vancouver, in a number of popular cosmetic and medical procedures. Dr. Pinkhasik has been practicing in Richmond since 1987.

What Are Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport?

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are prescription injectable neuromodulators derived from Botulinum A toxin. They are used for temporary relaxation of specific hyper-active, tense, or spastic muscles, or to block sweat glands to produce the desired effect.

How Does It Work?

These neuromodulators permanently block the release of Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, from nerve endings at the site of injection, producing the following effects:
  • Relaxation of muscles that cause wrinkles, or a muscle spasm that causes a headache
  • Targeted relaxation of specific muscles can be used to produce a brow lift, reduce a gummy smile, or improve “turkey neck”
  • Injecting into Masseter Muscles can weaken these muscles, reduce Masseter size, and is used for treatment of Bruxism (teeth grinding) and TMJ pain
  • Injecting in areas rich in sweat glands (such as underarms) will block the nerves activating these sweat glands, and can be used for treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Does Botox® Hurt & What are the Risks?

Botox® and Xeomin®  has been used around the world by millions of people.  Botox® has been a Health Canada approved prescription drug since 2001.  Our Richmond clinic has been using these injectables since 2011. These injections are done using very thin needles, so the discomfort is minimal.

The safety and comfort of our patients is a priority at Richmond Medical Spa Club; only licenced doctors perform injectable treatments.  Botox® and Xeomin® injection treatments are generally safe, and side effects and complications are minimal to none. Side effects can include: bruising and pain at the injection site, redness and temporary facial weakness or drooping.  Prior to receiving any injectable treatments, the doctor will have a health consultation to answer any questions regarding the benefits and risks of Botox® and Xeomin® and whether or not you are a good candidate.

Will I Be Able To Make Facial Expressions After Botox Treatment?

Our goal is to provide patients with the best desired results and to still have facial expressions. Most people use neuromodulators such as Botox in order to relax specific muscles which produce facial expressions which they see as detrimental (such as excessive frowning). During your consultation with Dr. Pinkhasik, you will decide which facial expressions you wish to limit and the degree to which you wish to limit them. The usual goal of these treatments is to produce a refreshed and rested appearance.
